What's New: Summer 2007

While the summer may have been a bit of a wash-out weather-wise for many of us in this county, here at PP&D we've been too busy to even notice what's been happening out-of-doors. For us, summer 2007 has been all about expansion, consolidating on the successes of the past few years and moving into our brand new premises . . .

With double the square footage of our previous space, the new location means that we've been able to expand operations considerably. We’ve been able to take on new staff, purchase new litho and digital printing facilities and upgrade our digital photocopiers and computer-to-plate technology. We now have 23 highly skilled print industry professionals on our payroll (compare with our team of 11 members of staff in 2006!), which means that we can offer our customers a fuller range of services with better delivery times than ever before.

The New Design SuiteOur new pre-press area is more than twice the size as the old one, and able to comfortably house a radically expanded design team of three designers and one trainee.

A new dedicated computer-to-plate space and the corresponding state-of-the-art technology means that our operations are ever more efficient in terms of time and energy - a boon not only to our clients, but a big plus in terms of our commitment as environmentally friendly printers. For our drop-in customers, the new premises is definitely more accessible in physical terms, closer to the shops and local amenities of nearby Newtownards, as well as more customer-friendly, with a more spacious reception area and dedicated meet-and-greet staff.

So - with such exciting and encouraging developments afoot, you can understand now why we at PP&D have had other things to do than bemoan the lack of summer sunshine!

Managing Success at PP&D: Graham Doherty, General Manager

Graham DohertyIf you've been following latest developments here at PP&D on our regularly updated What's New pages, you'll be aware that over the past months, and to coincide with opening the new premises and generally expanding operations, we've been carefully consolidating our existing management structure. The latest key addition to our team is Graham Doherty, our new General Manager, who joined the company in June 2007. The most important part of Graham's brief is to ensure that the service we provide to our valued customers is as streamlined and efficient as humanly possible . . .

We talk of 'management structure' here, but one of our secrets at PP&D is that we don't have any kind of 'them and us' system operating in our team - as Graham is quick to point out: 'Everybody here just works as a team - there isn't any real hierarchy going on as such. We all try to help each other out, and keep things running as smoothly as possible. But while the atmosphere is casual and relaxed, everyone's here to get the job done and keep the customer happy. That's our primary focus.'

There’s no doubt that part of the reason Graham is able to keep operations ticking over without having to overly exert his authority is the fact his professional credentials and the quality of his hands-on experience in the industry are beyond question. After serving an apprenticeship at prestigious printers Nicholson & Bass, Graham went on to work for seventeen years in one of the largest reprographics companies in this part of Ireland. For ten years, he gained invaluable experience in all aspects of print origination - including photography, design and pre-press - before becoming a partner in the business. He remained there as a partner for the next seven years, during which the company in question also moved into full colour printing.

As General Manager, Graham's brief is to oversee the production process from concept and design to final printed product, and to ensure that even the tightest of client deadlines are met and everyone is as happy as possible with the end result. He's always on hand to provide considered professional advice to the customer at each stage of the printing process, and to troubleshoot for the production team, working to resolve any problems as quickly as possible. Graham's effectively able to do everything which can be done by myself as MD . . . and so for clients and staff alike, there's the assurance that if, for whatever reason, I'm not available, Graham will be able take the necessary decisions or action without everything grinding to a halt!

As well as his highly impressive track record in the industry, Graham is approachable, professional and highly personable. Such personal qualities, along with his low-key, no fuss attitude to problems and ability to think on his feet, make him the ideal point of contact for customers and the staff alike here at PP&D. You can see why we're delighted to have him on our team!

Graham can be contacted on: graham@peninsulaprint.co.uk or on 02891 814125.

So, as you can tell, we've been busier than ever this summer . . . None of it however would be worthwhile without the ongoing support of you, our valued customer - and so as always, we'd be delighted to hear what you think about our new services, as well as our existing ones. So please keep in touch and don't forget to check in regularly with us on this page to read all about our latest news and developments.

Here's to a few days of sunshine and a productive autumn ahead for all of us . .

Gary
